Secure HTTPS connections to your server are protected by an “SSL certificate” (also called a “cert”). CyberSpark checks to be sure your cert was issued by a recognized certificate authority [“CA”]. Anyone can issue a cert, but only certain organizations can issue certs that are “trusted.” It is this issue of trust that we are addressing. It then saves the certificate and if (or when, perhaps) it changes, it sends you a report. For example, when you renew your cert, which probably takes place once every year or two, CyberSpark will catch that.

However, if someone hacks your DNS and redirects your traffic to another server (see our “DNS” filter), then they will have to present a different SSL cert in order to mimic your secure server. Our filter can also detect both of these changes (both DNS and SSL). |
